Today I was based at the end of stage 7 of the 2013 tour of Britain, on the cobbled high street in Guildford, Surrey. In 2012 this stretch of road marked the end of that year’s tour, with no London stage due to the Olympics & Paralympics. The winner of the stage last year was Mark Cavendish, despite the fact that the finish is on a steady incline along the cobbles. This meant that he was very much the favourite for today’s sprint finish.
Today also marked the last real challenge that riders could make for the general classification Gold Jersey, Currently held by Sir Bradley Wiggins. With a bunch finish in Whitehall, London tomorrow in the final stage, he is unlikely to relinquish that lead.
Below are a selection of my photos from stage 7 in Guildford.
Where crowds of waiting fans surrounded the door of the bus hoping for an autograph from Wiggins. The OPQS team bus was just to the left as fans waited for stage winner Mark Cavendish to arrive shortly after.
So that was stage 7, which means that tomorrow it is stage 8, the finale in Central London. Barring any misfortunes, Sir Bradley Wiggins is on course to win the 10th edition of the modern tour of Britain. Again I will post some of my Images from what promises to be an exiting stage.
