After four days of action at the 2012 London Olympics, Team GB were yet to grab that elusive first gold medal of their home games. However as one month gave way to another, so the Olympic gold rush would begin. Like when I was there to witness Team GB’s first medal of the games in the women’s road race on Sunday, I would also be there to witness a Gold & Bronze in the men’s cycling time trial from 2012 tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins and runner up Chris Froome respectively. The women of Team GB comprising of Emma Pooley and silver medal winner Lizzie Armitstead would come up just short of the medals, finishing a very respectable 4th and 10th place.
One thing that was guaranteed though was that there was phenomenal support for the home riders, the deafening roar from the crowd giving an indication of when the rider would come into view. The atmosphere was truly amazing. Below, I have selected two photos, one of Bradley Wiggins as he headed for what was a comfortable gold with 42 seconds in hand over second placed German, Tony Martin. The other photo of Lizzie Armitstead as she valiantly attempted to capture another medal after the brilliant silver in the downpour of the Women’s road race.
