I set off early this morning to see if I could find a good spot to watch the mens cycling road race from. So I was surprised to find myself able to stand on the end of the mall in a fantastic viewing position.
As things panned out, Team GB couldn’t get the job done despite being strong favourites for gold, but it didn’t dampen the mood amongst spectators.
Below is my highlight image of the day, something I will do for each day I am at the games.
Finally the wait was over and the sprint was on around this bend and onto the finishing straight on the Mall.
Columbian Rigoberto Uran is seen leading the sprint here with 400 metres to go, but he was overtaken by Alexander Vinokourov of Kazakstan who claimed an unlikely gold medal.
